A Few Of My Favourite Things… May

Every month I like to list some of the things I’m loving right now. I try to include what I’m wearing, eating, addicted to on TV (usually something on Sky Atlantic or Netflix) and what I’m dancing round my half-finished kitchen to…

Here’s what I’m loving in May:

What I’m Wearing…

Ballet Pumps – With Spring moving into Summer, it’s time to kick off the Converse and ankle boots. I love ballet pumps because they’re so versatile. You can dress them down for the school run or team them up with a pair of skinnies for a night out with the girls. I found these from M&S and they’re sooo comfortable, M & S Leather Ballerina Pumps, £25.

As the weather turns warmer I like to experiment with the colour of my jeans too. During Winter I tend to gravitate towards the darker shades of denim – the blacks and the dark blues. Sainsbury’s Tu has a really affordable denim range at the moment. Right now I’m loving their light grey skinnies: Grey Skinny Fit Mid Rise Jean, £14.00.

What I’m Eating…

Asparagus – May marks the tail end of the asparagus season, my all-time favourite veggie! As well as tasting delicious, it’s packed with nutrients: fibre, folate & vitamins A, C, E and K. Matt cooks an amazing asparagus risotto which is brilliant in its simplicity but tastes divine. We also tend to grill asparagus as an accompaniment to baked fish and  salads.

What I’m Watching…

Big Little Lies. I can’t get enough of this show. I mean Alexander Skarsgard. I mean the show. Eek. He’s not very nice in it but still….  The cast is amazing and the story delves deliciously into the complexities of motherhood. I find myself wincing and whooping at the same time.

Best thing on TV at the moment. Sky Atlantic

What I’m Listening To…

My favourite artist released his new album last month – Ryan Adams. And yes, it’s still having constant rotation in our house. Matt and I have very different music tastes but we always agree on Ryan. We were married to one of his songs, and our first date night after Emily was born was to one of his gigs. It seems only fitting that the first time we’ll be leaving the kids for ONE WHOLE WEEKEND (gasp) it will be to catch his latest tour.

If you like Conor Oberst & Jason Isbell then you’ll love Ryan Adams soulful alt-country tortured vibe. His lyrics kill me every time and this latest album is Ryan at his very best. Ryan Adams – Prisoner on Amazon.co.uk, £10.

If Emily had her way we’d be listing to the Beauty & The Beast and Ballerina soundtrack on repeat.  Also excellent I might add. Just not every blinking’ second of the day…

What I’m Reading…

Those of you who follow me on Facebook & Instagram will know I inherited these gems from my late Grandfather recently. In a few, rare minutes to myself today I found myself dithering over which one to start first. I opted for Persuasion (thanks to all on social media who suggested it!) It must be over 20 years since I last read the book (at school). But guess what? I’m hooked already.

What are your favourite things at the moment? Comment and let me know!

xx
